The Paul Hogarth Company Celebrates 35 Years

Date

Our team celebrated in Scotland, where it all began, with a visit to The Macallan Estate.

This year, our team came together in the Scottish Highlands to celebrate The Paul Hogarth Company’s 35th anniversary. Established by Paul Hogarth in Scotland in October 1990, we have expanded into offices in Belfast in 1999 and Dublin in 2020. Over the years our team has delivered a wide range of exceptional and award-winning public and private sector projects.

The Macallan Estate

In commemoration of this 35-year milestone, we explored the landscape, heritage and craftsmanship of one of our long-term projects – The Macallan Estate. We have been working with the client for over 18 years, and during this time the estate has matured into a truly unique home for the renowned whisky brand, a place that puts people and the environment at its heart.

Through our long-term involvement with the Edrington Group, we have assisted with a wide range of master-planning, infrastructure and landscape projects, including the overseeing of the management of the Estate’s large and complex landscapes, ensuring it fulfils the needs of its users whilst continuing to work towards the brand aspirations of the client within the Estate.

Climate Resilience and Biodiversity

Our client’s commitment to Net Zero has placed particular emphasis upon ecological improvements across the site. The Macallan’s new award-winning distillery building and an extensive area of bonded warehouses have been integrated into reimagined landscapes, instigating the delivery of biodiversity enhancements across the wider Estate.

This includes ecological improvements to the estate’s wetlands and ponds, re-establishing a network of extensive hedgerows, the establishment of scrub and grass/wildflower meadows along with the planting of nearly 80,000 native trees and counting. This has transformed the setting of the distillery, enhanced The Macallan Estate’s climate resilience and biodiversity, and has helped establish a consistent and cohesive landscape across the 485 acre estate, from woodlands and walkways to warehouses and farmlands.

Tree Planting

In commemoration  of the Practice’s 35-year anniversary our team planted 35 native trees on the Macallan Estate, as a lasting, physical tribute to our work and ethos. As we explored the Estate’s woodland and grassland habitats and walked in and around the distillery infrastructure and landscape elements, it highlighted the work being done to enrich this varied landscape. We were joined on our journey by Red Squirrels, Sky Larks, Linnets, and Meadow Brown Butterflies, just some of the priority & red-list wildlife species that inhabit this dynamic site. A true testament to the importance of climate resilience and biodiversity.

The development of this site has seen it mature into a site for the renowned whisky brand, but also a haven for native wildlife and eco-restoration. It was the perfect setting for the celebration of our 35-year milestone. This site encapsulates the positive difference our team can make to lives and the environment by putting people at the heart of spaces and places, while championing nature and the needs of our planet.

We look back in appreciation at all the Practice has achieved, while looking forward with excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead.
