Developing and championing our Climate & Biodiversity Action Plan 2025-2030

Our commitment to a more sustainable and biodiverse future.

CHANGE

Climate change and biodiversity loss are no longer distant challenges; they are immediate realities that affect the way we live, work and build. As a dedicated team of landscape architects, urban designers, and planners, we recognise our responsibility and unique opportunity to instigate and facilitate change, build environmental resilience and increase biodiversity.

Our work responds to built and natural environments, placing us at the forefront of the changing climate and ecology.

To be part of that change, we have recently updated and strengthened our Climate & Biodiversity Action Plan 2025-2030 to help sharpen our priorities, set measurable goals and challenge us to go further in how we address these issues.

Spanning projects and offices across the UK & Ireland, the plan reflects our responsibility to respond thoughtfully to diverse environments and communities. In conjunction with Government guidance and the Landscape Institute, our Climate & Biodiversity Action Plan provides a clear roadmap for tracking progress, initiating change, and embedding sustainable thinking across our practice.

ACTION

The action plan will:

  • Prioritise climate action and biodiversity in every aspect of our work.
  • Embed sustainability and resilience at the heart of our design thinking and project delivery.
  • Influence clients, partners, and communities to ensure climate and biodiversity remain central to every agenda.
  • Continue learning and evolving to stay responsive to the challenges and opportunities ahead.

To guide us, the action plan is structured around our four core aims:

Reduce & Reuse Making conscious decisions around travel, materials, and resource use.

Protect & Enhance Safeguarding existing landscapes and strengthening ecological networks.

Inform & Inspire Sharing knowledge, raising awareness and championing best practice.

Act & Act Now Going beyond compliance: seeking higher standards, accreditation and measurable impact.

IMPLEMENTATION

The action plan has already been proven to be successful.

Reduce & Reuse has ensured that we are specifying more recycled and reclaimed materials to reduce the amount of imported products, examining supply chains and building relationships with local suppliers to reduce the carbon footprint of construction works. We have also implemented food waste bins in the office and inspired colleagues to cycle to their site visits.

Protect & Enhance is evident in the way we design with nature and place, retaining and enhancing landscapes and plant communities. This is complemented by the design of beautiful, resilient planting strategies that celebrate local, native ecosystems while strengthening biodiversity and actively promoting habitat protection and enhancements, no matter how small!

Through Inform & Inspire, we continue to keep climate and biodiversity firmly on our agenda. Ongoing internal discussions ensure these topics remain a priority, while also creating opportunities to share successes and lessons learned across the practice. This extends beyond the studio, into targeted conversations with clients and other consultants, helping to prioritise the climate crisis and embed more conscious decision-making from the earliest stages of every project.

Act & Act Now is about taking the action plan forward, implementing further change, improving how we run the office, refining the way we design our landscapes, and pushing industry standards by frequently reviewing relevant ISOs & accreditation.

FUTURE

2026 marks the beginning of implementation. Building on these recent successes and wins, we will continue to monitor and track our output and challenges to set a baseline and then identify gaps and where we can focus our efforts.

We will continue to bring climate change and threats to biodiversity to the top of the agenda through our professional work and to the forefront of everyone’s thinking, such that it retains priority professionally.

We are determined, and looking for opportunities to improve: through our designs, our influence and our commitment to a more sustainable and biodiverse future. By starting small, acting consistently, and strategising long-term, we believe meaningful change is not only possible – it is already underway.

We, as a company, will make a difference.
