Academy of Urbanism Congress 2022

Cities Overcoming Challenges

This week, Belfast City will host the annual Congress for the Academy of Urbanism.

Held over three days and hosted across a range of exciting venues around the capital city, this year’s Congress is themed on Cities Overcoming Challenges, and The Paul Hogarth Company is proud to have partnered with The Academy of Urbanism  in organising and supporting the event.

Through the course of this year’s Congress, our multi-disciplinary team of designers and planners will be in attendance across a variety of roles and events. James Hennessey has played a key role alongside the AoU to arrange the programme of events, speakers and venues across the three days of Congress, while Andrew Haley will be part of a panel discussion as Chair of the Ministerial Advisory Group on the topic of Investing in Places for Impact. In addition, each of our Edinburgh and Dublin offices will be represented at Congress through Alison Hope and Bart O’Doherty – who will be in attendance across the discussions, workshops, tours and events. We are also pleased that our two student summer placements, Aoife Corrigan and Darragh Friel, will be working behind the scenes.

The Paul Hogarth Company is excited to play a central part in the wider conversation around Cities Overcoming Challenges: to discuss the opportunities and successes that our team has been a part of through our 30-year-long history. We look forward to continuing these critical conversations alongside some of the best minds from across the built environment – and from across the world – while meeting new colleagues and delegates each of whom will be critical in furthering conversations and actions to overcome those challenges that our cities and urban areas currently face.

Connswater Community Greenway, reconnecting inner-city communities in East Belfast

Belfast is a city we know well, having established an office there in 1999 and since been central to its transformation with projects such as Cathedral Quarter, Custom House Square, Connswater Community Greenway and CS Lewis Square. Congress 2022 is a unique and exciting opportunity to learn from the host city, from the rich experiences and unique knowledge of those in attendance, and to meet with participants from across a wide variety of disciplines, geographies, and backgrounds.

Congress 2022 – Belfast: Cities Overcoming Challenges will be held between Wednesday 8th and Friday 10th June and our team looks forward to seeing you there. For further information on Congress, and to see further information on what the Academy of Urbanism do, please visit www.theaou.org.
