As part of our continued growth and dedication to staff development, we are delighted to announce the promotion of Landscape Architect’s Darren McKinstry and Mark McNaughton to the position of Associate Director.
Together they have played key roles in the delivery of landmark and award-winning projects across Ireland and the UK. These include the transformational Wild Atlantic Way; the restoration and redevelopment of Hillsborough Castle and Gardens; the regeneration of the Connswater Community Greenway; and the long-term management of The Macallan Estate.
Mark McNaughton
Mark joined The Paul Hogarth Company in the summer of 2006 having previously been employed as a year-out student in 2004/2005. In those 20 years of dedicated service to the company, Mark has developed and excelled on a wide range of projects. These include Landscape Masterplanning, Public Realm and Landscape & Visual Impact Assessment projects, together with the detailed design and delivery of an extensive and diverse range of hard and soft landscape projects. His specialist skills in horticulture and plantmanship, gained at Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh, have also been instrumental in the delivery of projects.
Mark’s designs are based on thorough site analysis in combination with community and stakeholder consultation, to produce practical design solutions that put people and the environment at their heart.
Mark’s expertise has been particularly important in the long-term management of landscape, including leading the landscape design, delivery and management of The Macallan Estate for over 15 years. He is currently working on new and redevelopments of major whisky distilleries throughout Scotland, several mineral works projects, as well as the transformational restoration, development and interpretation of Westport House, Co. Mayo.
Mark has also been instrumental in the development of staff and company standards, ensuring we continue to excel in our fields.
Darren McKinstry
Darren joined The Paul Hogarth Company in the autumn of 2008. As well as his degree in Landscape Architecture, Darren also holds a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and a two year HND course in Amenity Horticulture.
During his time with the practice, Darren has developed extensive knowledge in a wide range of disciplines and projects. These include extensive Public Realm and Landscape projects, flood alleviation and sustainable housing schemes, as well as play parks and parklands. Darren’s project management experience in design and construction, combined with his horticultural expertise and creative mindset, has been central to the delivery of innovative, quality and bespoke project solutions.
Darren’s expertise has been particularly important on the transformation of Hillsborough Castle and Gardens, Connswater Community Greenway and Wild Atlantic Way. Currently, Darren is leading the detail design and delivery of the Lower Lee Flood Relief Scheme and Morrison’s Island in Cork. He is also project managing the detail design and delivery of the flagship infrastructure project, Belfast Transport Hub, and accompanying public realm.
Darren has also been at the heart of staff development within the practice, providing mentoring and support to staff at all levels.
