Rossmore Forest Park Play Area

Exploring nature through play

Rossmore Park is a much-loved forest on the outskirts of the town of Monaghan. Our masterplan for the overall forest highlighted the desire for play facilities in the area. Workshops with local schools outlined what the young play experts of Monaghan really wanted was natural play including tree climbing, dens and access to nature.

Rossmore Forest Park is more popular than ever, seeing a major increase in local and regional visitor numbers since completion of the plan.

Glowing public feedback and a major increase in visitor numbers are testimony to The Paul Hogarth Company’s hard work.

The client and consultant team quickly recognised the passion of the public and local stakeholders for their forest and accordingly embarked upon a collaborative process to jointly consider the future of the forest together.   Creative events and workshops led to a framework that sought to balance ecological, heritage and forestry needs, with increased provision of recreational amenities.

The practice has since designed and delivered new entrance features, pathways, car parking and with the help of local school children, an award-winning natural play area.  As a result Rossmore Forest Park is more popular than ever, seeing a major increase in local and regional visitor numbers since completion of the plan.
